What is a Sound Bath?
Is water involved?
Just for staying hydrated. Don’t worry there are no togs (aka swimsuits) or water or splashing around involved. Instead of bathing in water, in a sound bath we bath in the vibrations and tones of a mix of different resonate instruments.
It is an immersive experience where you rest in a cosy warm room with your body supported and eyes gently closed. This allows for minimum distractions which enables the body to naturally slow down and focus on the sounds and the sense of sound around your body.
In a bath, we listen and follow the sounds with our ear but we also feel the sound or vibration of the sound with our body.
By gentle bringing our awareness into our body and following the flowing movement of sounds, like a doorway into our inner realm, it can connect us to our internal states and give rise to restoration of those parts of the self that need recovery.
The deep rest within a sound bath is in part due to the disruption of the cycle of stress within the body; moving away from reaction into repair by enhancing the para-sympathetic nervous system. This is the rest and digestive state where nourishment and repair of your bodies systems can take place. The synchronous activation of the nerves of the skin though this felt sense of sound can trigger a relaxation response and deepening into the self.
This can help give rise to restorative & meditative states to tune back into you.
