5 Post -Treatment Self - Care Tips
Want to extend that lovely chilled post- treatment feeling? It can be surprisingly simple.
Follow these post massage tips to prolong that feel-good feeling and really soak up all the benefits of your treatment. Follow these tips for the 24hrs after your appointment of massage, reflexology, deep tissue massage or sound therapy but apply to also any nourishing complementary treatment.
1. Drinks lots of water! This may seem obvious but can be easily over-looked and is an essential part of your post- appointment wellbeing. Our bodies are made of water at around 70%, we are water-based beings. Our muscles, connective tissues, facia, organs and system are fluid based. This makes our bodies function almost like a big hydraulic system, it relays on water.
During a treatment your circulation is stimulated, increasing the flow of fluid around the body, promoting a detoxing effect as the body speeds up filtration of waste products from the lymphatic system.
This detoxing effect also takes place within the soft tissue of the body; in releasing restriction in the facia and tightness in the muscles, stored waste products which have been bound in glued soft tissues can be released back into your system to be eliminated. This now freed up soft tissue looked to become hydrated, oxygenated and nourished.
2. Rest. Your body has begun to slow down and move into a rest, repair & reset state, move with this state by thoroughly nourishing yourself and do all the things that help facilitate rest such as a bath, a guided relaxation a lovely walk. Nourish the body but minding your mind can be the most potent way to prolong the chilled effect and feel it’s effects into your week.
Avoid intense exercise or strenuous physical activity and create space mentally to switch off.
3. Reduce time spend on your phone. Our attention and energy can get pulled in many different directions checking emails or social media can create whirlwind of different inputs and can shift emotional processing from resolution to confusion. Allow yourself the space to restore and disconnect.
4. Cut down on the tea and coffee. Your body is moving in rest and repair, caffeine as a stimulant activates a different branch of the nervous system which shifts into reaction instead of relaxation, bringing you in the opposite direction.
5.. Eat a healthy, light nutritious food. This will help the body to continue to focus to repair and resetting rather then eating a big heavy meal which would divert the bodies energy into breakdown down and digesting. Think salads, healthy protein’s, non-starchy, easily digestible food.
